Metabolite Identification
Common Namegamma-Pyrufuran
Descriptiongamma-Pyrufuran, also known as γ-pyrufuran, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as dibenzofurans. Dibenzofurans are compounds containing a dibenzofuran moiety, which consists of two benzene rings fused to a central furan ring. gamma-Pyrufuran is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). Outside of the human body, gamma-pyrufuran has been detected, but not quantified in, pomes. This could make gamma-pyrufuran a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods.
