DescriptionDesacetylcefotaxime, also known as desacetylcefotaxime, monosodium salt, is a member of the class of compounds known as cephalosporins. Cephalosporins are compounds containing a 1,2-thiazine fused to a 2-azetidinone to for a oxo-5-thia-1-azabicyclo[4.2.0]oct-2-ene-2-carboxylic acid moiety or a derivative thereof. Desacetylcefotaxime is practically insoluble (in water) and a weakly acidic compound (based on its pKa). Desacetylcefotaxime can be found primarily in blood and urine, as well as in human kidney and liver tissues. Within the cell, desacetylcefotaxime is primarily located in the cytoplasm. Desacetylcefotaxime belongs to the family of Cephems. These are organic compounds containing the 5-thia-1-azabicyclo[4.2.0]oct-2-en-8-one nucleus[1]..
