Identification
HMDB Protein ID HMDBP00160
Secondary Accession Numbers
  • 5392
Name Methionine synthase
Synonyms
  1. 5-methyltetrahydrofolate--homocysteine methyltransferase
  2. MS
  3. Vitamin-B12 dependent methionine synthase
Gene Name MTR
Protein Type Unknown
Biological Properties
General Function Involved in cobalamin binding
Specific Function Catalyzes the transfer of a methyl group from methyl-cobalamin to homocysteine, yielding enzyme-bound cob(I)alamin and methionine. Subsequently, remethylates the cofactor using methyltetrahydrofolate (By similarity).
Pathways
  • Betaine Metabolism
  • Cystathionine Beta-Synthase Deficiency
  • Cysteine and methionine metabolism
  • Glycine N-methyltransferase Deficiency
  • Homocystinuria-megaloblastic anemia due to defect in cobalamin metabolism, cblG complementation type
  • Hypermethioninemia
  • L-methionine biosynthesis via de novo pathway
  • Methionine Adenosyltransferase Deficiency
  • Methionine Metabolism
  • Methylenetetrahydrofolate Reductase Deficiency (MTHFRD)
  • One carbon pool by folate
  • S-Adenosylhomocysteine (SAH) Hydrolase Deficiency
  • Sarcosine Oncometabolite Pathway
  • Selenocompound metabolism
