Identification
HMDB Protein ID HMDBP02701
Secondary Accession Numbers
  • 8204
Name Proheparin-binding EGF-like growth factor
Synonyms
  1. DT-R
  2. Diphtheria toxin receptor
  3. HB-EGF
  4. HBEGF
  5. Heparin-binding EGF-like growth factor
Gene Name HBEGF
Protein Type Enzyme
Biological Properties
General Function Involved in epidermal growth factor receptor binding
Specific Function May be involved in macrophage-mediated cellular proliferation. It is mitogenic for fibroblasts and smooth muscle but not endothelial cells. It is able to bind EGF receptors with higher affinity than EGF itself and is a far more potent mitogen for smooth muscle cells than EGF. Also acts as a diphtheria toxin receptor
